A TOLEWARE SNUFF BOX IN THE SHAPE OF A BOOK
English, circa 1810-20
Painted red with optical illusion double head, the "pages" painted green. Above both heads, their names, York and Ms Clarke. The front opens. Mary was a courtesan of the Duke of York and was involved in a scandal by selling army commissions and adding them to the Duke's list, this was in parliament in 1809. Some wear.
